Programme
The Tast d’orquestra cycle gives you a fresh perspective on symphony orchestras. It is a unique experience that creates a dialogue between music and the performing arts and turns musical discovery into a more enriching and stimulating experience. With the Tast d’orquestra you can enjoy a selection of key works from the history of music performed by the OBC in an abridged concert format and be amazed by the theatrical production, loosely inspired by the day’s programme, performed by the company Indi Gest before the concert.
Despite the fact that many of the nicknames given to the principal works of the classical repertoire were not chosen by their authors and were generally due to commercial reasons, there is no doubt that Schubert’s Ninth, which he completed in 1826 but that was never performed during the composer’s lifetime, is a supreme work thanks to the quantity of orchestral resources and the power of the melodies it contains. The fervour of the first movement is balanced over the different episodes and also highlights the imposing advance of the successive andante con moto or the ferocious attacks of the scherzo, rich in leaps, intricacies and dialogue between sections. “The Great” ends with a fast-paced allegro vivace, a finale that dares to pay honour -discreetly yet quite clearly- the musical theme of another great NinthSymphony premièred by Beethoven just a couple of years beforehand but that he was unable to hear because of his deafness.
