Programme
Dialoguing with tradition —questioning it and subsequently reconstructing it— seems inevitable at least once in the life of every composer. After discovering the commission entrusted by the BMB to Marc Timón, one of the most successful Catalan musicians on the other side of the ocean, the audience will hear a piece by Marco Cesarini that evokes the spirit of the late Baroque era through the prominence of the solo flute. It is, of course, more a paraphrase of compositional modes than a true imitation. The concert will conclude with a sample of the symphonic work of maestro Salvador Brotons. His Sixth Symphony is aptly titled Concisa, reflecting not only its moderate length as a post-Romantic symphony but also the careful restraint with which the material in its five movements unfolds, “without excessive developments or thematic manipulations”, as the composer explains.
