Marta Mathéu studied with Ana Luisa Chova, Montserrat Caballé, Elena Obraztsova and Wolfram Rieger. She has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Madrid’s Teatro Real, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Philharmonie de Paris. She has been awarded prizes at the Tenor Viñas Competition, by Juventudes Musicales de España, and at the international Manuel Ausensi and Montserrat Caballé competitions (Audience Prize).
In recent years, Marta Mathéu has established herself as one of today’s leading lyric voices. She approaches the opera, lied and oratorio repertoire with both naturalness and assurance. Her growing presence on operatic stages has led her to portray such diverse roles as Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia, Menorca, 2021) and Norma (Liceu, 2022), among others. She is the first Spanish singer to have performed Norma at the Liceu in the past 20 years and, together with Caballé, the only Catalan artist to have done so.
In the symphonic and oratorio repertoire, she has collaborated with conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel and Víctor Pablo Pérez. As an interpreter of Spanish music, her recording of the leading role (Francina) in Cançó d’amor i de guerra by Rafael Martínez Valls has been critically acclaimed, being the first complete recording since the one starring Montserrat Caballé in 1974.
Mathéu has made numerous recordings and has been a voice professor at the Conservatori del Liceu since 2014.
